Our biggest ongoing expense is living cost.
It's an ongoing battle of working just to have a place somewhere to sleep that has running water, heating and the basic amenities that we all want.
Hence I am a big fan of passive houses and earthships, rainwater collection and geothermal heating etc.
All these solutions are brilliant ways to get some of that ongoing pressure off with a onetime investment.
But what about commercial buildings? Commercial buildings are (usually) way bigger than residential dwellings with crazy high ceilings huge communal spaces and some running 24/7 for most of the year.
These are the buildings that can make the biggest difference in our collective carbon footprints.
Thats the reason that I am thrilled when it comes to sustainable and intelligent commercial buildings such as this unusual architectural landmark of the docklands, The Chrystal.
Not just beautiful but It uses recycled water for the toilets has 70% less CO2 emissions than other comparable offices and a £0 annual heating bill. (applause and cheering)
This beauty was designed by Wilkinson Eyre for Siemens and is the home to the world's largest exhibition on the future of cities.
I have really enjoyed Photographing this genuinely unique building a lot during a quiet evening.
